Tuppence was rescued in April 2007, just after Squirt. Tuppence was one of the sweetest dogs you could ever wish to meet. We were told of this little dog that had a broken leg and was being chased by bigger dogs. Mino found her, she was not going to be captured easily. Eventually, he and another man cornered her in a garden. She was so frightened. I loved her at first sight. Her front leg was in a terrible state, literally hanging. We had her operated on, after weeks of therapy, the op hadn’t worked.
One evening in the summer, we were out with my family, who were visiting, I was holding Tuppence in my arms, and I was approached by three children, it was obvious they knew the dog. We determined the little dog had belonged to them. When asked why she had been dumped in our village, they told us, she had fallen from a roof terrace and broken her leg, so their father had brought her there and left her. I wanted to kill this man, to put that tiny little dog through so much pain and loneliness was just unthinkable.
Tuppy had a second operation, she had a minuscule pin and plate put in, I remember we had to make her swim for forty consecutive days, she hated the water! Good job it was summer, as I had to get in the sea with her. She never used the leg completely, but at least she had no more pain.
She was probably about 16 or even older when her dear little old heart gave up, in September 2018. She died on my bed, which was her most favourite place in the world. I loved her beyond measure. And now I’m welling up just writing about her 😢
