Scruffy was a real challenge for me, he was unapproachable. I loved him at first sight and was determined to get close. Again, perseverance paid off, he used to come for food, but wait until we had gone before he ate it. Slowly he became less afraid until he was so friendly, we had to take him home with us!! Scruff was one of the three dogs left on their own because their owner had died. Bessie was another one of the three. He was such a lovely boy.
When we left Portugal, I was going to rehome him with a friend, but literally, on the morning we were leaving, I couldn’t do it. I wish I had, as he was killed by a car in February 2006. Also had we had him neutered straight away, he might not have gone walkabouts. He also tested positive for leishmaniose, for which we had him treated and he was successfully cured. Bless you little boy
