In March 2009 we moved house, away from that horrid road, and away from people. It was a much bigger place with a huge garden.
Rags was dumped from a car. Someone we knew, actually saw it happen. When asked why he didn’t take the number of the car, he just shrugged his shoulders. You see it’s just not important to some people here. Had we seen it, the person would have been reported to the police immediately. That’s if Mino hadn’t gotten his hands on him first!
He seemed to have a slight problem with one hip, which is probably the very reason he was abandoned.
We took him to our vets that evening, he gave him a good going over, he didn’t think it was a major problem with the hip, we just kept an eye on him. Rags sat by me whilst driving there, and he was so good, he never moved. What a delightful little chap he was. It just beggars belief that anyone could leave him to fend for himself. What sort of people must they be. Our vet thought he was no more than three months old.
In May 2009 Rags became seriously ill with haemorrhagic gastroenteritis! He caught it from another pup, Tinker. Rags almost died, it’s one of the most horrendous illnesses I’ve come up against. But he survived, we had to put him on a drip three times a day. I remember Mino setting up a table in the garden, in the sunshine, we would take turns with sitting with him. He slowly recovered till he was back to full health.
Rags got adopted and went to live in Leeds with Pino. I was lucky enough to see him the last time I went to the UK. 🐾🐾
