On a day in November 2018 a man was tending his olive trees just close to where we live and came across this dog with seven pups. What did he do? He came to us. We both went and saw them, she was so friendly, so were her puppies. Someone had abandoned her and her babies in the middle of an olive grove, where was she to find food there? Some people make me so angry.
We took them all and made a home for them in an abandoned villa just across the lane to our place. We used to go and feed them three times a day, making sure they had fresh water. We couldn’t keep the pups, that was for sure. After a couple of weeks, Mino contacted one of the better local kennels, and they came and picked them up. Pups are so much easier to rehome than older dogs.
They also took Mumma and spayed her, then after her convalescence, they brought her back, to the abandoned villa. I was visiting my family in England, and Mino was on his own. He got up one morning and Mumma was asleep on a sofa on our veranda. She had found a way in, and that was it, she never went again. Not strictly true actually, as she is an escapologist, and finds a way out. We have no idea where she goes, we never catch her going, and she always comes back. We have both been around the perimeter of our garden, looking to to see where she gets out, but we cannot find anywhere. 😁
She has gone from a skinny ribbed dog, with her backbone protruding, to a very rotund dog who is as fit as a fiddle.
