Lala and her pups 🐶Torre, Venice, Lia, Talia Chiana, and Phoebe.
Anyone who loves animals knows how painful it is to say that final farewell to a beloved pet. It’s so so difficult. We view them as family members and treat them as such. My gorgeous Lala was no exception.
In January 2014 we rescued Lala and her six pups from an empty villa by the beach, where she had found a spot to have her puppies. We brought her and them back here to our home. But oh boy as they grew, they were everywhere, you couldn’t walk for puppies. They were such hard work, six mischievous little souls, playing, tripping us up, ripping things up and just generally being puppies. They were really hard to work. But with the help and powers of Facebook, we managed to rehome them all to wonderful homes in the UK. Two of them, Venice and Lia, I am lucky enough to see, each time I go home for a visit to see my family. Also, Torre was adopted by my friend Liz, who brings him out here for the summer, so we both get to see him too. We kept them for just over three months.
The time came for the pups to go, Mino drove them, all of those hundreds of miles from the South of Italy to England. It was not a good trip, one of them was travel sick, I think it was Phoebe, but he made it. Lucky little ones getting their wonderful new homes.
In July 2019, my beautiful Lala developed mammary cancer, despite having an operation to remove the tumours, but it was too late, the cancer had spread. She went downhill very fast. I had to watch my beautiful girl fading before my eyes. It’s hard to imagine that at the end of May, she was playing ball in the garden, with my granddaughter Scarlett.
The vet came to our home to end her suffering. The last voice she would have heard was mine, telling her how much I loved her. She was no more than 7 years old, that’s so unfair, she should have had years left.
I was honoured that it was me she chose to be so faithful to. She followed me everywhere, she was my shadow, and if I went out she waited by the gate for my return
I loved her so much and will miss her greatly. Sleep tight my precious little girl 💔💔💔
